HIGH ART/LOW CULTURE

Friday, April 29, 5:00 pm - 7:30 pm
Saturday, April 30, 1:00 pm - 7:00 pm

A weekend-long Pop Up Art & Movie show at Bergamot Station continues the successful launch of the nonprofit Joy Factory Gallery/Cinema. HIGH ART/LOW CULTURE, is a group show featuring the outrageous art notebooks and transgressive, underground independent films of Adam Rifkin.

This is an inclusive exhibition of emerging and outsider artists of exceptional talents living with mental, developmental and cognitive disabilities. We are pleased to present paintings and prints on canvas and paper from ECF Art Center’s Thomas Birdsong, Larry Pearsall, Deveron Richard, and F.A.C.T. artist Morgan Chapman. Gallery hours on Friday, April 29 are 5 - 7 pm and 12 - 7pm on Saturday, April 30. Artist Reception is open to all from 5:00 pm on Saturday April 30.

The Pop Up concludes with an Artists Reception, free and open to the public, plus a ticketed screening at 8pm will feature Rifkin’s new film DIRECTOR’S CUT, written by and starring Penn Jillette.  A Q&A with Rifkin + special guests Harry Hamlin and Missi Pyle follows the screening.  See www.joyfactorygallery.com for information on ticketing.

Film industry veteran Bobbi Thompson, is creating a mission driven Visual Arts Center combining arthouse cinema, gallery and studio space. Art & Movie Show Pop Ups, hosted by EarthWE@Bergamot, aim to create awareness of this new indie/art destination in advance of a dedicated venue . Known for nurturing the careers of James Cameron, Tim Burton, Ang Lee, Gus van Sant and Trey Parker, Bobbi Thompson championed the films of maverick talents like Robert Altman , Stephan Elliott, and John Cameron Mitchell.

“When I have a clear vision of what is the best in each artist and their work,” says Thompson, “I want you see what I see -- and to respond to it actively. I am excited tocontinue to present radical cinema, 2-D art created by some of the most extraordinarycreative minds today, and hope you will come to build your contemporary collection.“
